The Tehachapi Mountains, 4000 to 8000 feet above sea level, seperate the Central Valley from the Mojave Desert. The Union Pacific Railroad snakes it's way over the mountains on switchbacks known as the Tehachapi Loop. The massive Tehachapi Wind Farm is at the eastern end of the chain.
