In April of 1865, after four long, bloody years of war, the Army of Northern Virginia was exhausted, cut off from retreat and out of supplies. General Lee, realizing the futility in continuing, surrendered to General Grant on April 10th at Appomattox Court House. In time, America would once again be whole and at peace with itself...
